Founder.best launch data (original research)

Measured from 278 live products launched on Founder.best from May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026. Figures use raw database records and refresh daily.

How many upvotes it takes to win a launch week

  • The median #1 product finished its launch week with a score of 12.5, across 20 completed weeks (May 4, 2026 to September 27, 2026).
  • Winning scores ranged from 3 to 28 over the same 20 weeks.
  • The median #3 product, the last podium spot, scored 4 in its launch week.

Method: We read the frozen top-3 snapshot saved when each ISO week (Monday to Sunday, UTC) closes. A week's score is the genuine upvotes a product received that week plus the starter upvotes included with Launch Pro (10) or Launch Pro+ (20). Weeks still in progress, and weeks where no launch received a vote, are excluded. See every result on the weekly winners page.

How upvotes are distributed across launches

  • The top 10% of products collected 36% of all 745 genuine upvotes (May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026).
  • The median product received 2 genuine upvotes over the same period, and 61.9% of the 278 live products received at least one.

Method: We count one row per account per product in the upvotes table, limited to live (approved or featured) products. Starter upvotes from paid plans are not counted here. Upvotes on products that were later removed are excluded.

Which categories founders launch in

  • 47.8% of 278 live products are listed in SaaS (133 products, May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026).
  • 24.5% of 278 live products are listed in Developer Tools (68 products, May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026).
  • 24.1% of 278 live products are listed in Productivity (67 products, May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026).
  • 23% of 278 live products are listed in Marketing (64 products, May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026).
  • 17.3% of 278 live products are listed in AI & Machine Learning (48 products, May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026).

Method: Founders choose one or more categories at submission, so shares add up to more than 100%. We show the five categories with the most live products.

How launched products charge

  • 40.6% of 278 live products are free to use (113 products).
  • 36.7% are freemium (102 products).
  • 22.7% are paid only, including subscriptions and one-time purchases (63 products).

Method: Pricing model is self-reported by the founder on the product page.

How many launches are ready for AI agents

  • 1.4% of 278 live products (4) list an API documentation URL or an MCP server URL that AI agents can use (May 4, 2026 to October 2, 2026).

Method: We count products with either optional field filled in on their listing. Products may offer an API without listing it, so this is a lower bound. Learn how listings are read by AI assistants.

Search and AI discovery statistics

How people find new products is shifting from ten blue links to AI answers. These studies measure that shift.

  1. 96.55% of pages in Ahrefs' Content Explorer index (about 14 billion pages) get zero organic traffic from Google. (Ahrefs, 2023)Measured: Content Explorer index at time of study
  2. Google users clicked a traditional search result on 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared, versus 15% of visits without one. (Pew Research Center, July 22, 2025)Measured: Browsing data from 900 U.S. adults, March 1–31, 2025 (68,879 searches)
  3. Users clicked a link inside a Google AI summary on just 1% of visits to pages that showed one. (Pew Research Center, July 22, 2025)Measured: Browsing data from 900 U.S. adults, March 1–31, 2025
  4. 60% of Google searches that began with a question word (who, what, when, why) produced an AI summary, compared with 18% of all searches. (Pew Research Center, July 22, 2025)Measured: 68,879 Google searches by 900 U.S. adults, March 2025
  5. Only 7 of the top 50 most-mentioned websites (14%) appeared in the top 50 for all of ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. (Ahrefs, June 2025)Measured: ~76.7M AI Overviews, 957K ChatGPT prompts and 953.5K Perplexity prompts, June 2025
  6. Gartner predicted traditional search engine volume will drop 25% by 2026 as AI chatbots and virtual agents replace queries. (Gartner, February 19, 2024)Measured: Forecast (analyst prediction, not a measurement)

Startup failure statistics

Why launches matter: most shutdowns trace back to not finding enough customers, not to building the wrong code.

  1. 43% of VC-backed startups that shut down cited poor product-market fit as a reason for failure. (CB Insights, March 5, 2026)Measured: 385 shutdowns with identifiable reasons, from 431 VC-backed companies closed since 2023
  2. 70% of those shutdowns cited running out of capital, usually as the final cause rather than the root problem. (CB Insights, March 5, 2026)Measured: 385 shutdowns with identifiable reasons, since 2023

How we collect and update this data

Original findings come from Founder.best's production database and only use records that are public on the site: live product pages, upvotes and the weekly winner archive. Headline counts elsewhere on Founder.best may differ because this page uses raw record counts. The calculations are recomputed every 24 hours.

Industry statistics are reviewed every quarter. We replace figures when a newer edition of a study is published, re-check every source link and keep the publication date next to each number. Last review: October 2, 2026.

Quoting a finding? Link to the section (each heading is a direct link) and keep the sample size and date with the number. Questions about the data go to our team.
